HOW DO I GET LOW COST COUNSELLING?

Affording counselling can be a challenge.  Here are some ways to make it easier:

  • WINZ - If you are on a benefit or receive Working For Families your can get funding for all or most of your counselling sessions.

  • I take a percentage of low cost clients - check out my pricing page.

  • Ask your employer, some workplaces will cover your therapy costs.

  • Set up an automatic payment, then you can pay a lower cost over time.

  • Spread out your sessions over a longer time period.  The only downside is depending on the issue, you may need the intensity of having the sessions closer together. Call me to see if this is for you.

  • ACC - If there is a significant history of sexual abuse or if you have an injury counselling can be free.  There is a thorough application process which can take time.

WHAT IS COUNSELLING - HOW DOES IT WORK?

Counselling can be called many names:  Therapy, Talking therapy, psychotherapy these terms all mean the same thing.  Essentially it is an experience where you meet with a therapist in a one on one setting and work through life's challenges. Therapists use a variety of techniques or models to encourage the creation of solutions.  The aim is to help you feel better and to learn new ways of coping.

This process can be short-term or long term depending on the issue and the style of counselling being provided.  This is something you can discuss with your therapist.

WHAT TYPES OF THERAPY DO YOU PROVIDE?

I use a "tool box/kete" approach.  The "tool box/kete" consists of styles and models that I have trained in over the years. For example during a session we could use two or three aspects of a technique to draw out a certain response.

I like to work with the following models:
